Polish Parish of Luton/Dunstable

History - Our own Church

In 1966 the 1,000th anniversary of the birth of Christianity in Poland was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Shortly afterwards, at the Annual General Meeting, a proposition to purchase our own church was put forward to mark such a great anniversary in the history of our country. The motion was accepted and the Methodist church, which was no longer in use, on the corner of Victoria St. and Albion St. was chosen.

In 1967, after 15 years of waiting, our Community finally had a church of it's own. The general condition of the church was however poor, and extensive restoration works were necessary. The majority of the works were carried out by members of the community. Skilled labour, manual labour, advice and financial assistance were all given generously.
